Yes, the Dalai Lama event was GREAT

I have to tell you I didn’t hear all that much, but Micki did. So in the end I got good ideas, which were very insightful.

What, to me, was the most interesting thing about the Dalai Lama was how he handled himself. He was so relaxed. When he walked on stage he did his traditional bow with his hand in a prayer position. In no way was he in hurry. Rather he just sauntered to where he was to sit, which was a very, very large chair. The reason why it was so large is because he just didn’t sit down, but took his shoes off and pulled his feet up on the chair and sat cross legged.

He had on a red robe with yellow trim. Once he got comfortable he pulled the robe down to his waste, oh he had what look like a red t-shirt on under the robe, and let out with a large smile. Just like he was telling us he is ready.

On the stage with the Dalai Lama were six College presidents and his interpreter. The topic was, as I understood it, about the world and how education fits in the grand scheme of things. But here is the official name of the event “The responsibility of higher education in today’s Global Society”

You might know that China does not want the USA to have anything to do with the Dalai Lama, but what the heck we do anyways.

What endeared me most about the Dalai Lama was his laugh and smile. His laugh was so genuine and seems to have relaxing impact on the audience.

When it was time for him to leave he put on his shoes and walked to front of the stage and looked into my eyes, yes I said my eye and gave me a bow with his hands in a prayer position. I’ll never forget the serene smile.

I forgot to tell you that by the luck of god we had front row seat. Maybe being two and half hours early helped.

See and hearing the Dalai Lama was great experience and one I will never forget.
It is my hopes if you ever get a chance to see him, do it.

Are you ready for tax day?

As you know I believe every day is a good day, so why would tax day be any different.

Getting ready for tax day can be a pit of a challenge, particularly if you haven’t kept up with things during the year, but many years ago I started using software that helps. It is called Quicken and by the way I don’t get cent for mentioning them.

I am sure there a lot of others. Maybe your bank offers a FREE service of electronic checking that might be able to do the same thing. Now here are some tips that can help you. Make sure you use the right category for all the things you write check for. Let’s say you write a check for your doctor, then a check for the hospital. Make sure you put them in the same category. In the accounting world they call this chart of accounts, of which medical might be one of them.

The reason you want to do this is at the end of the year you can run a report on all the medical expenses for your tax year. Bingo you now have a report of all your medical expenses that you paid for by check.

Why am I going over all of this, will be because if you just did this one thing putting things in categories, a big part of your tax perpetration is already done.
Second thing to do is keep a file on all your tax information. Example: the final statement from your mortgage company. Most of the time it will not only have the interest you paid for the year, but the taxes you paid on your home.

If you don’t itemize your taxes then you can forget about what I just told you, but those that do I hope it was of some help.

What I just told you works better than I even thought.

Two days ago I got a call from my accounts administrative assistant. See didn’t ask but said “be here tomorrow at 5:00 PM to go over your taxes for last year. I was shocked and said “I am not ready and I have a board meeting at 5:00AM tomorrow.” Without giving me time to think she said “OK how about 11:00AM tomorrow.” I said OK, but I told her I didn’t have everything. She said bring what you have. And that was that.

Will you can just imagine what I started to do. Yes, I turned on my computer and went to work. It took me about two hours, but I think at least I had enough to get my account started.

At 11:00 AM I walked into the reception area and asked for my accountant. It didn’t take long and she opened the reception door with a big smile and said “Follow me”.
We sat down and she started to ask me question. Then she asked if I had any documentation. And I did. Will thing moved a long quickly and in a half hour she told me that my taxes are completed and they will be ready within a week.

I almost feel over with relief and joy. You know if I were a drinking man I would have had drink, but instead I went around all day with the biggest smile on my face.

I didn’t know it but I was ready for tax day and this proves again every day is a good day.

Should I be happy or sad?

I chose to be happy and there is for good reason. There is more and more evidence that happy people are healthy people. That should be reason enough, but here is another. Being happy for others is a form of giving, which builds your own happiness.

Today I played golf with some real good friends. Micki couldn’t play because of a pulled muscle in her shoulder, so I had to sacrifice myself and play without Micki.
Our good friends Linda and Mike are really getting into golf and like to play as much as they can. Me I love being outside and I enjoy the company, but to tell you the truth golf is not a passion for me.

We are going to get to the good part pretty soon, so stay tuned. Linda only started playing golf two years ago and I must say she sure has improved from when she first started playing.

She and Mike went through dozens and dozens of lesson and hours on the practice range. I must say all their effort is starting to show results.

Just so you know Linda hits real will off the tee. To give you a for instance, Mike and I hit from the men’s tee and Linda hits from women’s. In the resent past Linda, even with her hitting yards in front of Mike and I was seldom close to your drives.
Recently something has happened and Linda’s tee shots were starting to get close to our tee shots.

Will it finally happened, on the third hole which is a very long par four, Linda did it. She not only out drove me, and I must say I thought I had a pretty good drive, her ball blasted past by mine by at least seventy five yards.

The saving grace was Mike hit his best drive, I think forever, and was about the same distance off the tee as Linda.

To answer the question should I be sad or happy. That is easy. I was so happy for Linda I could of given her a big hug right there on the third tee, but with Mike there I thought better of it.

When your’ happy for other it only helps to build your own happiness.

How to introduce yourself to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet

We are going to see His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. Micki, my wife is going to attend also, so she was wondering how she should address the Dalai Lama.

She knows he is a very important person and she should give him the greatest respect. Now we are going to be in cast of thousand , so our chances of greeting the Dalai Lama is from slim to none. However, just in case we get to greet him personally Micki wants to be ready.

Micki is one not to leave things to chance, so at lunch see was testing out how she should greet the Dalai Lama.

Though he is an important person he is not the Pope so she didn’t think she should bow and kiss his ring and he is not the President of the United State at which she feels you should shake his hand.

So lunch went a little longer that it normally would, because Micki was determined to do the right think when or better yet if she was to be introduced to the Dalia Lama.

She said “you can’t said nice meeting you Mr. Dalia Lama.” And she thought the saying” His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet” might be too much.

My question to anyone what is the right thing to say when or if you were to be introduced to the Dalai Lama? The reason I ask because I was becoming more confused hearing Micki’s different attempts on what she should say when and or if she would be introduced to the Dalia Lama.

The restaurant was starting to empty out, but Micki and I were still there. She was bound and determined to have the right thing to say when or if she was introduced to the Dalai Lama.

Then out of the blue Micki said “I got it”. When or if she is introduced to the Dalia Lama, she said I am going to say “Hello Dolly”

There is more why being is happy is good for you

In a recent study by Dr. Karina Davidson of Columbia University Medical center states “If you aren’t naturally a happy person, just try to act like one. It could help your heart.”

Dr. Davidson speculated that several factors may combine to produce the heart –protective outcome of being happier. Happier people tend to sleep better and practice more heart-healthy behaviors.

She also said, “They may also be physiologically different than those of who are unhappy.”

Happy people tend to have less stress in their lives and handle the stress they have better than less happy people.

Dr. Davidson study is not a short study with a few people over a short period of time. The study was for 10 years on 1739 men and women. The study showed that the happier someone was the less likely he or she was to develop heart disease. In fact, for everyone on the five-point scale that measure positive effect, the risk of heart disease dropped 22 percent.

There is so much more on how by being happy is good for you, but I’ll go over that at a later date.

Let’s change tack and look at when your’ happy you attract people. Don’t you want to be around happy people? I sure do. Yes I have my serious moments and that as it should be, but you are not going to see me with be frown on my face and feeling sorry for myself. For sure I am not asking people to feel sorry for me.

Having loved ones and friends is a great health builder. All you have to do is look around you. Look at those that have had long term relationship and I’ll bet you see those that they are content and happy with life. You see their happiness in their smile and how they care about others.

So be happy and not only have a wonderful life but a healthy one.

Some more on how happiness can be yours

Let’s first look at those that are unhappy. Unhappy people don’t want you to be happy, so don’t spend a lot of time trying to make them happy. Their personal goal is to make you feel like them.

I am sure they don’t do this because they want to, it is just the way they are.
Now we’ll go over how to create more happiness in your life. We talked about being healthy helps, but it not the cure all. We have all met people that are real sick, but they are so happy with life. They show it in everything they say and do. How can this be, their sick.

Sick or not they have something inside them that is better than any medicine. It is personal self esteem. Self esteem is not ego, because ego can cause more problems if kept unchecked. Self esteem is when you feel good about yourself and you know deep in your heart that you’re adding well to the betterment of universe.

I am getting to deep and need to lighten up. Happy people like to socialize and read the newspaper. For some reason happy do not watch as much TV as unhappy people. This is according to John Robinson, a professor of sociology at the University of Maryland and the author of the study, which appeared in the journal Social Indicators Research.

Here are some things to do and not to do with unhappy people. When talking to a unhappy person make sure to generate thoughts of happiness and be determined not to be lured into joining in with their unhappiness.

Do not try to deal with an unhappy person when you are not feeling happy yourself. This is a sure way to get into an argument. The last thing is never allow an unhappy person to blame you for their state of mind. If you are an unhappy person, get over it.

There is a lot more things that I will cover in the future on how you can raise your level of happiness, so stay tuned.

Happiness with wealth can be yours

Happiness is a state of mind and all you have to do to have happiness is want it. It is that simple. But if you want to raise the level of happiness in you life there are things you can do that will help.

In my book “Happiness in Eight Steps” I cover eight steps and in the second edition I added another, Health. Our health many time we take for granted until we don’t have it. So let’s take a look at many of the things we can do assure us the best of health. Of course there are NO absolute guarantees, but the things I am going to cover will certainly raise you odd of having and long and healthy life.

Here is the most obvious, stop smoking. There so much data that spells out all the harm smoking does to the body I won’t take the time to go over it. But here is one fact people tend to forget, if you smoke you are not doing real harm to yourself, but to others. I know it is hard to stop, but please do whatever it takes to stop, if not for you do it for your loved ones.

Alcohol in moderation is not bad for us but in excess it can take years off your life and not just your health but through accidences. When driving under the influence you can not only kill yourself, but others. So for goodness sakes don’t drink and drive.

Not eating right. I must say over the years there has been a lot of confusion of what are the right things to eat. Let look at the egg. For years the yolk was considers bad for us. You could eat the egg white, but not the yolk and that was because it was considers to have body damaging cholesterol. Today it is OK to eat the yolk because it loaded with real good things for our body.

Eating the right things are important to your health along with the pure quantity of which we eat. As my doctor tells me no matter what you eat if you eat too much you’ll put on weight. I have to confess I have had too much weight most of my adult life.

Health is only one of the important ingredients to having a life of happiness with wealth. I will be giving you other ingredients to happiness with wealth in the next couple of issues.

DHL lost 85 pounds in 1987

Yes in 1987 I lost 85 pound in less than four months and I did under a M.D’s supervision. Here is the diet in a nut shell. All I had to eat every day was 600 calories. That was it, Oh I had to walk for at least one hour every day and the pound came off like water off a ducks back.

Our neighbors Doug and Marsha said they could see me shrink a little each day. It didn’t take long before my cloths start to be too large.

What I had to eat was powdered protein. It came in 100 calories little packets. I just dumped the package into a class and added Diet Coke. I could have used water but the diet Coke gave it some flavor.

Just so you know it did not have the same ingredients as Slim Fast, but whatever it was it really worked. I had to walk the one hour a day, but could not do any stressful exercise.

During the diet I had to go to Japan on business. The hard part of the diet was explaining it to my Japanese business partners. Once the Senior VP Mr. Inacoma got the picture he took over explaining my diet to everyone we ate with.

At the time I was in Japan they didn’t have Diet Coke but rather a Coke called Light Coke. Every time we went by a vending machine that had Light Coke, Mr. Inacoma would get me a can of it. By the way Japan had more vending machines than you can ever imagine.

After 10 day I was back in the good old USA and about 30 pounds lighter. Now it was time for some smaller cloths. There was No alcohol drinking while I was on this diet.

Finally I hit my goal of 160 pound and that was from 244. Now it was time for a complete redo of my wardrobe and to tell you the truth I hadn’t felt as good as I felt in years and years.

My Doctor did worn me that people would say I was too thin or even worse that I might have some very bad health problem. People did say I was too thin and there were those that would secretly talk to Micki to see how long I had to live.

It is twenty three years later and I am still alive, but not as thin. Here is what I did wrong. I started to eat pasta not a little but a lot that was because at that time pasta was suppose to be the perfect food. Oh I start drinking again.

I never got up to 244 again but I did put on a lot of weight. Though I must say all during this time after the large weight loss I keep walking all most every day plus having a weight lifting program.

As of Dec. 26, 2009 I have told everyone that would listen that on Dec. 30, 2010 I would be 185 and if I am a little less that 185 that will that’s OK. I am on The DHL diet and you can read about on one of my past blog or E-mail me at www.dhalind@gmail.com and I’ll send it to you.

DHL is going to see His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet

This should be interesting. I hope if I ever have the opportunity to go to China they don't find out that I heard the Dalai-Lama speak. You know the Chinese are funny about free speech.

It is my hope that I can hear him and understanding what he is talking about. The reason I say this is because I could not understand the Mariachi Yogi. The Mariachi was exceedingly intelligent person, but every time I had chance to hear him all I heard was bunch of double talk. Thus it is my hope the Dalai Lama speaks in way that is understandable.

The real excitement to me is listening to person who has had such a vast experience in living in a part of the world that to me has been so slow to move into the twenty first century. With that being said what I have read and seen of the people in this region, they seem to enjoy life. They seem to smile a lot and want to help others. Both of thoughts traits are in my book “Happiness in eight steps”, so they are on the right path to happiness.

Here are some facts about the Dalai Lama. He came from a large family of sixteen; I would call that large, and was the fifth of the sixteen and at the age of two he was proclaimed the rebirth of the 13th Dalai Lama.

China invaded the region in 1950 and one month later, on the17th of November he was enthroned formally as the Dalai Lama, he was fifteen, and because of his new position he became the region’s most important spiritual leader and political leader.

Not to pick on the Chinese, but they must not have liked him very much, because they wouldn’t let him pack in his country or to put in another way if he came back to his country of Tibet the Chinese would not take kindly to him.

It is my hope that I’ll learn more about the wonderful man. I say wonderful because I have never read or seen anything but good things about him.

Here is to getting you up to date on the 14th Dalai Lama.

DHL is in the Keys and it is another good day

The Florida Keys is such a special place. It as if your in another world. Today Micki and I have nothing planned, at least I don't. When we use come down on our boat, this is what our schedule was.

Wake up and go get a Diet Coke for Micki and a paper. After I went over the paper I would take my morning walk, then wander the dock and get caught up and all the events. At about 11:00 AM we would start to plan where we would go for lunch. After we made the decision we would climb into our small boat take off for lunch.

We couldn't take the big boat becauee the water in the Keys is to sallow where the restaurants are. In the distance we could see the cut to our restaurant of choice. Of course we knew everyone that work at the restaurant, so when we arrived it was like old home week.

I is so nice to be around friends. It seem like everyone in the Keys is a friend, that is why Micki and lover to come down here.

Back to the old days after lunch it was back to the big boat for a nap. You know after a class of wine and some food a nap is in order.

After the nap it back to the dock to catch up on what had happened in the morning, which normally wasn't much, but we could sure make into something.

At about 4:30 PM is was time to figure out where we were going for dinner. So about 5:30 we had the restaurant selected. Now we go into our Key best, which might be a clean T-shirt, which had to have some keys printing on it and pair of Bermuda's.

After dinner it was back to the boat and some more talk on the docks. Then we might watch some TV or watch a movie. Then to bed.

What do we do the next day, the same thing we did the day before. Isn't that GREAT.

I love the Keys, for you that are not from South Florida it is the Florida Keys.

DHL and MML were kidnapped

Yes Monday night Micki and I were kidnapped. This how and why it happened. Our house if being painted, so Monday was presser cleaning day. About 5:00PM I heard the door bell ringing and a lot of pounding on the front door. I was in my office on the second floor and can barley hear the door bell and Micki was reading in our sitting area and couldn't hear anything.

Thinking it was the painters wanting something I went to the front door and opened it and to my surprise it was six of our very best friends. They were laughing and shouting your are being kidnapped. You can imagine I had no idea what they were shouting about. Then they told me that they were taking Micki and me out to dinner to celebrate her birthday.

I had no problem with that, but I had to tell Micki who was really not dressed for going out to dinner. So I ran up stairs to let her know about being kidnapped. Laura followed me up and confirmed that were in fact being kidnapped.

You guested it Micki was dressed in flash, of course it had to give our capture some libation. While the captures finished their drink a lot of conversation was going on.

The capture got us in one of the cars and we were off. Off to one of Micki's favorite place, an Irish Pud. With a maiden name of McDermott where else would she want to.

As you an imagine he eight of us had a great time. When we got home and our capture left, Micki and settled down in our sitting are and started going over the wonderful evening.

For those if you who don't know Micki I'll get you up to speed. She is funny, caring and will do anything for a friend, so as you can imagine Micki is loved by many and that includes me. Yes, Micki is a very special Lady. By the way we will celebrate her birthday for the whole month of February.

This is a good day because I learned something

Yes today I learned some very good stuff. You might ask what stuff I learned. Ok I till you; I learn how to be author that has enough money to eat. That is a big thing for some authors. To tell you the truth I like to eat so this work shop I attended this morning will help in this manner.

In step 1 in the workshop you had to ask yourself what kind of an author are you or want to be? Here is how I answered that. I want to be entertaining and have message. You let me know if I do that

The second question in step one was what kind of literature do I want to produce. Here is I want to produce, literature that is fun and relaxing.

The third question was what kind of difference do I want make on the world. That was the easiest question of all. I want to get people to laugh and learn how to enjoy life.

So how am I doing? If you have read my book or blogs do I achieve these things I want to. At the end of this I’ll give you me my E-mail address so you can have your input.

In step 2 the first question was why are you writing this book and in my case I already wrote one and have started a second, so this question really applies to my new book. I am writing my new book it help people better understand themselves and others, in a way that is entertaining for the reader

The question was what is the overall goal of the book? It is to help people improve themselves, through happiness.

The morning went by so fast that I almost forgot to go to lunch, but never fear I did have late lunch and it tasted good.

Now for your part, please give me your opinion if I write like a want to. E-mail me your opinion www.dhalind@gmail.com. If you do this I will send you a gift of some kind, but don’t get you hope up that if will be money. I am looking forward to your comments.

This is a good feel good story

This story starts with our new neighbors. They have this little dog and it is the cutest thing. He is a Shih-Tzu and things he is German shepherd. When they walk him he so proud and you just know that he thinks he’s the best looking dog on the block.

Harley is his name and he is very proud of it. If you know what a Shih-Tzu look like he you can’t miss his pedigree. He is a very light sandy color with a perky tail that stands straight up.

When I am walking in the morning and he is on his morning walk he always comes over to give me a once over, then I give him a gently rub behind his ears. But he a proud guy and accepts the ear rub then goes on with his walk.

He is not like most dogs and it think that is because he really doesn’t think he is a dog. No I think he thinks he is a lion and the king of the jungle. If you didn’t see that he is very small you can see some resemblance to Harley and a lion.

The best thing about Harley not being a real lion is that he won’t eat me for lunch. He will give me a lick on the back of my hand before he goes off with his master to do his business.

I just like to watch Harley bounce down the street without a care. With a light breeze the hair on his head look alive with movement. Razes from the sun reflected off his soft coat as if he was illuminated making him look real special.

One day some things got out of kilter and Harley was off his leach and car was going too fast and scared him and he took off. You can imagine everyone was in pure panic and started to go after Harley, but for a little guy he was sure fast and he got away.

His owners and the rest of the neighborhood looked for hour, but with no avail. The next morning Harley owner put up flyers all over town. The police were notified and every available kind of social networking platform was used.

I have to tell you that for South Florida it was real cold. At night it got down in the high thirties. Two nights passed and everyone thought the worst had happened. Then the owners heard some sketching on the back door. Guess who was there Harley. They brought him in with tears running down the faces and they were tears of love.

Harley is now going to get a buddy that is going to be just like him and as all good stories should end, everyone lives happily ever after.

Razes from the su

DHL has another perfectly good day

Yes I am DHL and if you want to know it stand for David Harold Lindemann. Harold is my father’s first name, but was called Bud all his life.

OK back to another perfectly good day for me. As always it started great. I couldn’t walk to day, but I did work out and used the big ball. Then off to get Micki a fountain Diet Coke. I got Back Home and then breakfast
.
You can read about my famous breakfast on my blog, http://happinesswithwealth.com. You’ll have to look back a few days.

Now it is time for what made this day special. Micki and I have matching La-Z-Boy chairs and if ever let anyone know she would kill me, not literally of course. Here is what happened. The handle that lifts up the leg rest broke. Being a mechanical guy I was going to fix it. The part that broke off had be laying on my dress for weeks if not months

Micki tried to throw it out several time, but I stopped her because I was going to repair it.

In the old day I would have had one of our tool makers in the plant make me a new one, which might have cost hundreds of dollars but those days are over. Noa DHL was going to have to get the job done.

The reason it took so long to get started was I wasn’t sure how I was going to go about the repair. Then the light came on, why fix it just buy one.

I was going to drive to a La-Z-Boy store and purchase one. Then Micki spoke up and said why don’t look up the phone number and see if they have any.

I turn on the computer and go to Google.com and look up La-Z-Boy stores in our area. I find one and make the call, but all I got was an answering system. So I did the next best thing and take Micki out to lunch near the closed La-Z-Boy outlet.

It was a rainy day and not as warm as it should be in South Florida, but I braved it and Micki and I were on our way. Of course the La-Z-Boy store was on the opposite side of the street so I made a U-turn (it was a legal U-turn) and pulled right by the front door. In my exercise program I should have part at the back of the lot, but they only had one role and the only open spot was by the front door.

I walked in not knowing if I would be successful, but I was giving it my best shot. I walked up to the main counter that was at the back of the store. Guess what, there was a salesman there. However, he was taking care of someone and told me he would be with me next.

He was right; I was taken next because I was the only other person in the store. Now I told him my dilemma. He didn’t even flinch, but asked me how old was the chair and I told him. Then he said he would be right back and as a man of his word he was. But the great part is he was holding a handle that would work on my chair and what was ever better he said “take it it’s free” You can’t beat that

My chair now works GREAT thanks to L-Z-Boy giving me the handle. Thanks L-Z-Boy.

Why waste a perfectly good day

Let’s put it this way, every day is too good to waste. I have heard people say I am glad that this day is over or days like the one I just had drive me up a tree. You know something these people are feeling sorry for them self. That’s too bad because they are probably the only one that feels sorry for them. In my esteem opinion they are just wasting their time.

The only reason you think and I mean think you had a bad day is because you haven’t look at what you learned from what you thought was a bad day.

Just think you more than likely could have learned some very good things on how to improve the things that caused what you thought was a bad day.

Now I must say if you fell down the stairs and broke you leg, that might qualify for a bad day at first glance, but if you look deep down at the root cause for you fall you will find the answer could it be you had a little too much to drink or you were goggling at some beautiful young gal picking up something?

By looking into the root cause you might say I am drinking too much or I really need to pay attention to where I am walking, though she sure was cute. You have to stop that and work at the root problem, because every day is prefect day. But you keep messing it up. You should be ashamed of yourself.

If you keep doing things like the ones mentioned above you’ll blow my every day is a perfect day theory. So stop doing those things. However, I still know that every day is a good.

Back to everyday is perfectly good day. The most important reasons to appreciate every day is because we are only given so may day in our life and though we don’t know how many there is a limit number. You can mess up a day but is still a good day, because you still here.

As my Dad always said you want to have birthday because the alternative is no day at all. You don’t want that so enjoy every day and treat every day as a perfectly good day, your life will be better for it.
