Mobile phone a god send or not

We have to know everything as soon as it happens. This started back in the 60’s when TV started broadcasting live from around the world. You didn’t have to wait to read about in the paper the next day you saw it live as it happening.

The mobile phone has changed the way we live. It is difficult to find anyone that doesn’t’ have a mobile phone. Kids have them and think nothing of it and as far as they are concerned mobile phone are as American as apple pie.

All of this is great to a point and I have a story to tell you about mobile phone abusive. Look at people driving, you find a good many of them on the phone. My personal question what are all these people talking about? Believe it or not I can actually remember when people sent letters to one another, now forget that you just call them.

I think in California it is against the law to drive and be on your mobile phone. Personally I think that’s GREAT. If talking on the phone isn’t bad enough some people actually tech’s will driving. That has to be worse than the guy I use to follow in the morning reading his paper will driving.

Mobile phones are great, but do you like to sit near someone in a restaurant that is on a mobile phone? When the person is talking is sounds like they are yelling so the person can hear them, which means you can hear the whole conversation. Maybe I don’t want to know what kind of a deal this person is putting together or when he or she is going to meet someone. To me it down right irritating and more and more restaurants are put people on notice not to use their mobile phones in their restaurant. That works for me.

Now the mobile phone is your walk around computer and makes so many things easier and that is the spirited we should have. Use it as a tool not a controller of you live

Happy mobile phoning to you or whatever it is called today

Why don’t we ever seem to have enough time with all our time savers?

Here are some examples of how I have saved hour of time this year alone. In the past to get my driver’s licenses I would have to drive to the driver’s licenses office, wait in line for who know how long. Then start to fill out the driver licenses forms. Wait a little longer and take an eye exam. With that out of the way I could set down and wait to have my picture taken. Now that my picture was taken and I was told it would be about two weeks before it could be sent to me.

That was in the old days. This time I got on the internet filled out all the forms and made an appointment to get my driver’s licenses. The day of the appointment I drove to the driver’s licenses office at the proper time walked up to the counter. My picture was taken and in about five minutes I had my driver’s licenses, isn’t that great.

Look at all the time is saved, but I still need to save more. So now I have to travel to Michigan for a meeting. I am flying so I get on the Internet go twww.delta.com key in bunch a lot of numbers. Then key in the locations where I am going. Then the dates and times I need and within second I have some many choices to pick from. I can even get side assignments. All this may have taken me fifteen minutes.

It seem like I keep saving time, but I still don’t have enough time. Maybe it if I keep finding way to save time I’ll even get further behind.

I have a plan to save time and have time at the same time. I just won’t do anything. No more writing blogs and don’t pod cast. No more writing book. No more meetings. This is a big one I’ll stop playing golf. Now look how much time I’ll have.

But what am I going do with all this time. I more than likely would be bored stiff, so that won’t’ be any good. You know I think I’ll just learn how to live with not having enough time and enjoy it. What do you think?

After months of work it happens

This is story of two friends of mine. They have been working on some products of herbs and vitamins to sell over the Internet. I don’t know how they got a hold of the directions to make the herb and vitamin formula, but they products worked. They went through all the government testing to make sure they weren’t harmful. Things where moving along, but even with a lot of effort, time was passing and they were falling behind schedule.

One of the last things that needed to happen was too fine a firm to manufacture their products and ship them. You would think that would have been the easy part, put it wasn’t. For one reason or another potential supplies couldn’t get the job done.

It was almost to a point that they were going to forget about the project and move on to something else. Then a strange thing happened that wasn’t part of the plan. I invited both of them to a pool party to support A Child Is Missing.

It was suppose to rain that nigh of the party, but it didn’t. Instead it was one of the most beautiful evenings we have had this summer. There was a band playing some nice and easy going Caribbean music. All the people were enjoying themselves.

As the president of A Child Is Missing I wanted to make sure all the guest were having a good time, so I spend my time mixing with the crowed. Right on queue my two friends showed up and I started to introduce them around.

At one point I introduced my two friends to one of our new Board members. I mentioned that J B, my friend, as the number one personal development coach cast in the world. The new board member said had JB ever heard of this marketing group and J B said he spoke there last month.

One thing led to another and the herb vitamin project entered into the conversation. The new board member said I think I can help and asked if they could meet with him Monday, which they did.

The deal isn’t done yet, but it looks like they have a company that will make, package an

That is what happens so many times, you put so much effort in to a project and then out of the blue something happens to make it all go together.

Here is to good things happening to you.

You can pick your friends but you can’t pick your relatives

I won’t get into the relatives, because that can be a very emotional topic, so I’ll just stay with picking your friends. In my case my friends are my family. They almost do anything you ask and be happy to do it and I would do the same for them.

Friends are so important in how are live evolve. So it’s important to make sure you put some real effort into selecting your friends. It has been proven if you want to be successful be around successful people. I might seem obvious, but it is true.

You learn so much from people that are successful. Most successful people think out of the box. Successful people are willing to take risk, but if you analyze how they go about taking risk it one of careful study or years of experience that give them the wisdom to make, what might look like, a snap decision.

Successful people also have successful friends, which can be of help in your ventures and you can help in theirs. Are you starting to get the picture? These friends help one another. By helping and teaching one another they all build in success. Not bad and it most cases it is a Win-Win for everyone.

These types of people respect their friendships. So in most cases their word is as a contract. Honesty is a vital ingredient to making and continually building these friendships.

Like all friendship you have to work on them and by that I mean the friendship has to be one of give and take. If you only take and don’t give the friendship will not last, so it is imperative to play by the rules. If you don’t you don’t only loss a friend but most of you other successful friends.

Yes you can pick your friends, but do in a way that works for you and the friend.

Do you like to wait, I don’t

Wasting time is not one of my favorite things. We all have so only so much time and we can’t afford to have it wasted.

One big time waster is doctor’s offices. When I was kid and had to go to the doctor it would take forever. I would arrive about fifteen minute early and go up to the frosted sliding glass window and ring the little silver bell setting on the ledge of the sliding glass frosted window. It would take a minute or so and the frosted sliding glass window would open. A not so pleasant face looking out and asked me “Who are you” and I would proudly give this person my name and the time the doctor was to see, which about in fifteen minutes.

Fifteen minute my foot. One hour past then another and finally the frosted sliding glass window opened and annouced that I was to enter. I was shown to an examining room where I spent at least another half hour. Then the door opened widely and the doctor and his nurse walked in. After a few questions and a cold stethoscope put on my chest and back I was told to give this note to my mother and have her call him back in a couple of day if I haven’t improved

.
Now for the modern way to wait, just call any organization that that has an automatic message system. Here is how it might sound like. “Hello this is “X” organization and we are here to help you. Press one for English and two for Spanish. “Then you hear a list of option , thought they might have been changed so pay attention. You select your option and hear “All our companionate helpers are busy helping your fellow whatever.

If your’ lucky there is some good music and then from time to time a voice might tell you that you might be able to get your answer by going to their web site. I must say that only on few occasions have I wait for only a minute or to, the rest of the time its ten to twenty minutes. Isn’t modern technology wonderful

Here is waiting for you.

Sometimes we think people know, but.

This is a story that I hope makes you laugh. You know laughter is good for you, so it is my intent that this story put you into a real belly laugh.

Businesses today want their associates (employees). I am still from the employee day. I know that associate is suppose to make those working in an organization feel more part of the it, but they still get a pay check and report to some one. Thus they are worker bees. Maybe that could be the new term for associate “Worker Bee”.

Now I am way away from the story. So I’ll get started. John a young man with a young family and wants to do the best for his family and the company he is part of. Did you notice I didn’t say work for the company.

Organizations all want their associates to really like what they do, so they work hard at having their associates feel good about what they do. There is the company picnic, the annual dinner and many other things to get the whole family involved.

Oh I for got the different awards that are given out during the year. Years Top Sales person, Best in Customer Service, Best attendance and the list goes on. Again these things are to make everyone feel important except for those that don’t get them and fell they should have.

Will John being a good associate and family man always wants to do the right thing. Coming up was bring your child to work day. John couldn’t wait to till his daughter that he was taking her to work with him next Friday, so she won’t have to go to school that day. Sally was ecstatic. She not only did have to go to school, but also would be able to spend the day with her Dad.

Friday came and Sally was ready a half and hour before she had to be. In the trade we would call this being pumped and ready to go. John and Fran, Sally’s mother, made sure Sally look just right. John and Sally got in the car and were off to work. When Sally go to here Dad’s place of work she seem a little puzzled, but didn’t say anything. Then finally she had to ask her dad questions. “Dad” she said,” do you drive a truck or do you sort boxes”

John had no ideas what she was talking about. So John said “UBS, the firm I am part of, is a international bank” Sally said in a disappointed tune “I thought you were a truck driver and worked for UPS.

Great Memories

I am not one to live in the past, but memories do some things to the heart that really make you feel good. Micki and I have two boys that are men now and have their own families, but after to going to Jakes, our only grandson, first tackle football game a lot of memories started to come back.

It was not so much the games but all the time we had enjoying them. Taking them to practice and games seemed like a never ending task, but we loved doing it. Both boys also took piano lessons and they actually liked piano.

Both boys played almost every sport, so for our family going to games, practices and piano lesson was a yearlong proposition. Just because we had boys didn’t mean are friends Bob and Jan with two girls got away without all the hauling. Jenny and Jodi were as active as Skip and Todd.

When we had to go out of town Bob and Jan would watch our boys and that meant hauling them to all their events. Micki even had Bob warm up Skip for a football game by have him punt the football prior to the game. We also did the same for Bob and Jan, and had a great time doing it.

If you think that all this extra activities bothered their studies, will it didn’t, all four where more than above students. Skip and Todd were both all conference atheists in college, Jodi was a varsity diver and Jenny was a simmer at West Point.

As you can see Micki and I are very proud of all four of the kids. Now we get to do it all over except for all the hauling. Now all we have to do is show up for the games.

That is what we did last Saturday. We had map to the game, but I didn’t do any advance planning so it took over an hour to get to a twenty minute destination.
I thought game started at 10:00 AM, but it really started at 10:30. It rained so the game started at 10:45 AM and we didn’t miss the game. Boy was I lucky.

All I can say is thanks for the memories.

Reduce anxiety by reading & How to start the day happy

When you reading, you should particularly pay attention to health related articles. A study conducted by the University of Alabama found a link between how easily women can access and understand health information and higher rates of happiness they have. I would think the same applies to men as well.

Those with the least medical know how were more than twice as likely to be unhappy, even if they didn’t have any health problems.

Do some reading on health, you’ll be happier for it.

A study at Britain’s Cardiff University found that participants who ate a high-fiber breakfast cereal said they felt more upbeat, less stressed and more ready to face the day. Those in the study that had a high-protein breakfast just didn’t feel as good as that eating high-fiber cereal.

Fiber helps steady blood sugar, so you don’t have the high and low that can give the blues. Andrew smith PhD says it flushes away chemical and other pollutants that build up in your system.

Not bad. Now just pour some skin milk and but on some blue berries on top and you're ready for a healthy and happy day.

Good Question

"Why are you inviting my wife onto your site? She doesn't know you”. This is from some one Face book.com

This is what I told the sender. Would you have handles it this way, I did. Give me your thoughts if you would have handled it different. Email me your thoughts to: dhalind@gmial.com.

Thank you in advance.

Here is what I told the sender.

“That is a good question. I’ll start with many of the things I am involved with. All of which need the support of many, starting with Broward College Foundation, one of its major role it to help students with scholarship, so they can help make this a better society.

I am also in working with A Child IS Missing, which is a national organization that assists law enforcement to find missing people, which in most cases are children. “Happiness in Eight Steps” is a books I authored which can help people grow in happiness, so the more that read the book and apply the principles s the better off we will all be. All of these activities need more that just myself and this is why it is important to have many friends.

It take people to make these things happen so we can have a better world, thus the more friends I have that can help, the more the world will be a better place. Also, I am more that willing to help my friends achieve their goals. Thank you for the question.

By speeding up you get energized & Talk with your fellow workers, it is good for you

Here is a sure –fire way to fuel an unhappy mood, move at a snail’s pace. This was found out by a joint study by Princeton-Harvard. Those that were part of the study agreed to whisk through many varied activities. When they did this they experience a surge of euphoria and creativity. Those that just went through the activity a regular speed felt less positive and sluggish.

Why this happens, it is because when you move at a face pace your brain get electrical stimulates that activate an area in the brain responsible for alertness, which has a beneficial effect on mood and energy.

Go out and do some fast pace activity and be happier.

In a study by the Swedish found that those that had no close friends at work were much more likely to take leavers for stress-related illness that those that had fellow workers they could confide in. Not to be out done by the Swedish the University of Michigan showed that gossiping with others helped the persons will-being and slashes anxiety levels. Having some chitchat at work is a very effective, all –natural alterative to antidepressant medication.

I’ll get a little technical, sharing with others boosts your body production of two feel-good brain chemicals, serotonin and dopamine, which is good for you.

Go out and pass on a little gossip it’s good for you.

Why are some people successful?

That has been the million dollar questions since the beginning of time. Now Angela Duckworth, a psychologist at the University of Pennsylvania might have the answer.
Let go back in time and look what was thought to be the common denominator for success. Intelligence was thought to be that denominator. So we looked at the brightest to be the most successful.

Now back to Angela, she tested cadets at West Point, the elite military academy. What she found is that in the class of 2008, 5% of the cadets dropped out after the grueling first summer. Angela had a questionnaire that the cadets took and found out it was a good predictor of cadets that had the right stuff to survive.

Angela became interested in grit after tracking the careers of her classmates form Harvard. The most successful she found are the ones that identified a goal early on and stuck with it, rather than equally smart folks who flitted from one thing to another. “Higher level of achievement requires a certain single mindedness” she says.

Here is one definition of grit. Firmness of mind or spirit: unyielding courage in the face of hardship or danger. That sounds about what Angela was talking out. I look at grit as the ability for a person to have a long term focus on something that they want to achieve.

After reading about Angela’s finding I took a little look at myself and found that I had one compelling goal in life and that is to be a better person tomorrow than I am today. You might call this continual self development. In all my years I have not wavered from improving myself daily. Some days the improvements may be very small and other days I might make a quantum leap forward, but each day I am moving ahead to bettering myself.

I am looking forward to seeing more of Angela’s research and when I do I’ll share it with you.

Kids say it from the heart.

A good friend of ours has a three year old daughter who made this comments which I will tell you latter.

Here is the story Katie and her husband had two boxers. If you know anything about boxers they are to say the least active. I can’t imagine having two of them, but they are not my doges. Their dogs names where Speed and Fast. You can just imagine why they got their names.

Back to the story, Fast wasn’t feeling well so Katie and Madi, her daughter, took Fast to the Vet. After some time the Vet came out and said Fast had cancer, but there is a treatment that has some success.

Then came the treatment and this went on over one and half years. Finally Fast ran out of luck and to be put to sleep. Now Katie had a problem, how did she tell Madi the Fast was not coming back?

Katie thought about how to handle Madi and came up with a story to tell her that would ease the pain for Madi losing Fast.

Katie is grade school teacher so she knows how to handle little people. With her story in hand she sat Madi down and told it to her.

Here it is, Katie said” Fast wasn’t well so he has gone up to Heaven to get healed”. Everything seemed to be going along quite will and then Madi said” couldn’t we have Speed go up to heaven to get healed and bring Fast back”

The best laid plans don’t always turn out as you had planned them. Out of the mouths of children come some of most profound things.

We have so much to be thankful for

Thankful I am. Last week I had eye surgery to close a hole in the back of my retina. I have no ideas if I didn’t do anything if it would have gotten worst, but I wasn’t taking any chances and had the operation to repair it.

Fifteen years ago they couldn’t have fixed the hole in my retina, but today with the advances in modern medicine I should be just fine.

Here is a story that Tom, friend of mine in Virginia, had with a detached retina over thirty years ago. I had to keep my face down for four days. Tom was hung upside down for four hours a day for two day. I may case it looks like I am OK, in Tom’s case his procedure didn’t work and the Doctor had to go back to the drawing board. Just so you know Tom finally got his retina attached.

It looks like my eye sight will be back to normal. And this is something to be thankful for.

Last night Micki and I found out from Skip, our son, that Jake, our only grandson, has asthma. But he’s going to be just fine. Skip really liked the Doctor and felt Jake was getting the best of care. Not only because the Doctor new his business, but because he could relate to Jake and Skip. This gave Skip a great deal of confidence in the Doctor.

When I was a kid we had a family Doctor, who we all loved, but he was from the old school. He never went over with me what was my problem, but told me to take these pills X time a day and call in so many days later and report how things were doing. I guess that was the way it was then, but not know. We-I want to know more of why I am taking whatever the Doctor is prescribing as what will it do for me.

I must say the Doctors I go today really take the time to inform me on what they are doing. This gives me great comfort knowing that they care.

Talking about caring I have to tell you that Micki gave the best after the operation care any one could get. Eye drops four times a day and made sure I was looking down so the gas bubble would continue to push the retina against the rear of the eye ball. She also won’t let me lift anything or use the computer and that was because I would have had to raze my head up and that was no, no.

To put icing and the cake Todd, our Dallas son, called several time to make sure I was alright and Skip, our home town son, was at the hospital before and after the surgery as well as calling a couple time a day to make sure Micki and I were doing fine.

Yes we had many calls from friend in town and around the country call to give their support... With all this support I can’t help but feel thankful.

Make sure you get your yearly checkups.

Staying healthy is a lot about taking care of yourself and that is very important, but you still should make sure your getting good medical advice.

There are three easy ones to have a yearly a physical, eye exam and denial check up. None of these take much time and can end up saving you time and money.

Yes I said money. If you let medical issues get out of hand and you need a lot of advance treatment it can get very expensive. Or it can cause you a lot of future medical problems that might have been avoided if you had found out about the problem earlier through an annual checkup.

Here is my story. A couple of years ago I found out that I had type two diabetes. Because I found out soon enough I have had no ill effects from diabetes. I learn how to eat right and exercise, will I exercised anyways. Now all I do is check my blood daily for my blood sugar count. So far everything is going will and that is because I found out about it early and took corrective action.

My second story is about my eye exam. My main reason an eye exam is to see if I have had any change in my vision so I can get the corrections in my glass, yes I prefer glasses. But just as important I want to be checked for glaucoma. Will at my last eye exam I had no glaucoma, but there seem to be a problem in my right eye, so off to a retina specialist. He found out what my doctor suspected and that is I had hole in my right retina. The specialist told me if he with a hole in my retina fifteen years ago he would pate me on my back and say there is nothing he could do.
Today is a different story. He told me he could fix it and that operation takes less than one hour and the best of all it would be done as an outpatient. I asked when could it be done and he checked and said next Thursday. I agreed and now it was just waiting for the operation.

The operation took the allotted time and the recovery was short and I was on my way home. Everything had gone will up to me getting home, will nothing went wrong when I got home but I soon realized that keeping your head down all day and sleeping with you face clown at night was a lot hard than I ever expected.

If I did my job right by keeping my head down, and there reason for that is they put a gas bobble in your eye to hold the retina to the back of the eye, I would be fine. If you are not looking down the gas bobble isn’t pushing the retina toward the back of the eye.

The point is either of these medical issues would have been unknown to me if I didn’t have an annual checkup, thus if I didn’t have the checkups I could have had some major health problems later.

Be healthy and wise get your annual checkups, you’ll be better off for it.
