Learning to be funny

Yesterday I spend wonderful morning learning about how to be funny at the Florida Speakers Associ
ations meeting. Andy Dooley was the speaker and is topic was “Show Me the Funny!”
Not to be too critical but Andy is just funny to look at. Then he went into his running story about how he can feel the wind blow throw his hair, he has no hair. The morning went on just like that, along with things you can do that makes things funnier.

Here is one and you can try it. It is called the rule of three. What this means is you say two things that make sense, but the third one is of the wall. Here are some examples. They have these dresses in small, medium and tent, or this one from Lucille Ball. There secret of staying young is to live if to live honestly, eat slowly and lie about you age. The rule of three almost always will get you a laugh.
If you don’t get a laugh you can try these save yourself comments. Whoever said, “Silence is golden” never tried comedy. Or just try “Oh will” and move one.

Andy had an ice breaker and it was called Sip, Sap, and Sop and here how it worked. Your get about seven people in a circle all facing one another, then you aims at someone and say sip and then the person who go the sip aims there had at someone and say sap then that person aims their hand at someone and says sop. The groups keep doing these till someone make a mistake. When that happens everyone claps. The Sip, sap Sop starts over. Each time getting faster and faster till everyone stops with laughter. Sip. Sap, Sop sound dump and it is, but sure gets everyone involved.

Andy had much more to teach us about being funny and i'll share more of what he taught us at a later time.

Remember people are happier and remember more when their laughing.

It is good to be happy

When you are happy people want to be around you. These people are happy people to and that is good. When you are around people that are happy and positive it only helps you.

You don’t want to be around grumpy and negative people, because all they want to do is drag you down to their level. I don’t think you want that, so make sure you are around happy, positive people it is healthy for you.

Here is the second reason to be happy, by being happy you are not as stressed as unhappy and negative folks. Stress lowers your immune system and when it is lower you are more susceptible to getting sick. You don’t want to get sick, so be happy.

Being happy and positive give you a better chance of living a longer and healthy life. Researchers that studies the dairies of the Nuns of Norte Dame in Milwaukee found that the ones that had more positive comments in their dairies live an average of eight years longer than those that had more negative comments in their dairies. The nuns lived in Milwaukee from the nineteen thirties up to early two thousands.

Happy and positive people attack happy positive people. Micki, my wife is such a person. Everyone loves here and she is almost always laughing. When she is on the phone you hear a lot of laughing. Yes happy people laugh a lot. Boy did I get lucky to find Micki. She has been a great inspiration to me.

Happy people are good for you to be around. Being happy helps you from being sick. And finally being happy can help you have a longer and enjoyable life. That’s not bad.

Go out and be happy it is good for you.

So you want to get energized?

Wanting to get energized is only the beginning. You number one have to move, yes I said move. Get off the couch and start moving. Using your fingers to change channels on the remote control is not the kind of movement I am talking about.

I am talking about real movement. How about jogging, but if that is too hard for you walk. You don’t have to go to the track to walk if that’s what you decide to do. How about the next time you go to the store don’t park right in front of the store ,but at the back of the parking lot. If you have to go up at couple of stories in a building take the stairs.

You don’t have to go in an Olympic training program to get energized, but being active is a great start. As a writer I am in front of the computer a good part of the day, so here is what I do at least twice an hour I get up and walk down the stairs and back. I might even to a little stretching.

So keeping active is a big step in being energized, but there is more. Eat right. A pizza once in a while is OK but not a regular diet of it. Do and I mean do have breakfast. Some whole wheat cereal, skin milk and some fruit, I personally like a small glass of V-8 juice along with my cereal and fruit. Once in a while I’ll have a fried egg, but I use olive oil in the pan.

Lunch should not be two quarter pounders, fries, and a shake. How about a salad with grilled chicken now that makes for a good lunch. But don’t load the salad with some high fat salad dressing, but rather put on a little olive oil and vinegar.
Personally I am off diet drinks; rather I either drink water or no-sweeten ice tea. Believe it or not once you get in to the swing of this kind of eating it pretty good and you’ll find you don’t put on those extra pounds.

I’ll let you figure dinner out, but here is a suggestion. Low fat, low sugar, green veggies and good protein, by eating like this you can’t go wrong.

Now for the sleeping end of energizing yourself, try to keep regular hour and have at least eight hours a sleep a day.

In summary be active, eat will and get a good night’s sleep. By living this life style you will find you have more energy than you have ever had.

Knowing where we live

We live in universe so large I don’t think anyone can begin to contemplate how large it really is. Why would I even bring up such a thought? Last night I was at the Buehler Planetarium on the campus of Broward College. It is equipped with the latest digital projection system. You can go back in time or move ahead in time to see the sky looked like then.

Everything was so exciting. When we were shown how far radio ways have gone out in space, it was amazing. We have been sending out radio waves for seventy plus years. Radio waves go at the speed of light so they have gone a long way out inspace, but the waves haven’t even gone one tenth of one percent into the universe.

We saw what the whole universe looks like; will as much as we can see today. Then we were shown where the Milky Way was and it wasn’t even a pin head in size and that is our whole galaxy. The breath of the Milky Way is millions of light years across, but it looked smaller that a bin head. That is just mind boggling.

We found out why the North Star stays in the same place in the sky. Did you know you can’t see the North Star in the southern hemisphere?

The whole experience of seeing the planetarium is so humbling. When I left I reminded myself that I am still here on earth and I have a life to live so going to enjoy what I have and give back more than I have received.

Go to a planetarium it is humbling, but rewarding to know that we a part of the most amazing universe.

Do you want a great day or a bad day?

You know it is your choice, so let’s start by having a bad day. When you get up in the morning tell yourself that things are not going to go good today, that works every time. You have just wired yourself in a negative mood and as the day progresses you will find you self talk is working, because things aren’t going good.

It is like you get what you wish for. Now you can take the approach and get up with a smile on your face and tell yourself that it is going to be a great day. You will find that using positive self talk you will have a great day.

Positive self talk is such a powerful tool. Instead of thinking and saying d negative things, think and say positive things. Your mind picks up on the negative or positive, so when you use positive thoughts the mind will react in a positive way.
You can look at in different way, we are what we think. By thinking positive you are program yourself to be positive. Others like to be around positive people. Positive people are up lifting and make others feel good.

When others fell good you feel good. It a cycle that help build you and others in very positive way. Now when you tell you self is going to be a great day you chances are you will have a great day and be looking forward to a life time of great days. Doesn’t that give you reason enough to take the positive direction with your life.

One last thought positive in generally live longer than negative people. So start every morning with saying it is going to be great day and live a long and healthy life.

This makes for a great day

Today I and a very good friend, Doug, went back in memory lane. Seven years ago Doug and I started to play golf after over twenty years of not playing. Doug did not want to go to any fancy golf courses, because he didn’t think his games wasn’t good enough and he was right and you know my wasn’t either.

Doug found these public courses that was in expenses and did not have many people playing on it in the afternoons so that’s when we played. There was several draw backs to this golf courses. One the green were so slow that you had to hit golf ball like you hitting your driver and there were as many weeds in the greens as there was grass. Second the fairways weren’t as good looking as a cow pasture.

We played at this golf course for two years and actually got use to it. I was a member of Country Club and I finally convinced to play with me there. The green were wonderful and the fairway didn’t look like a cow pasture. It didn’t take Doug long to get use a fine golf course, so he joined for the summer.

Doug being really conservative with money did not join as regular member after the first summer, but instead joined for another summer the following year. At the end of that summer membership he joined as regular member.

Doug and I never thought we would ever go back and play at old golf course that was in disrepair, but we did because our golf course is being total rebuilt and when finished will be a real show place and a fabulous golf course. There is one problem Doug and I joined another country Club for the summer, but the summer member ship ran out before our course was finished

Doug and I still wanted to play golf, so guess what today we went out to the old golf course we started at seven years ago. The course did change; it is en more disrepair.
You know something the bad shape of the course didn’t bother Doug or me. The day was so beautiful and we both hit the ball so much better than we did seven years ago it was just fun being together laughing and joking and without a doubt having the time of our lives.

What was so wonderful is that we weren’t thinking about the past but just enjoying the present

Where are you going

Do you know where your’ going? As in the Wizard Os if you don’t know where your’ going any road will get you there. I don’t think that is what most people want.

You want and have and passion for something, that is a great start to getting to where you want to go. There is more once you have the passion and desire you have to have a plan to achieve it.

In most plans there is going to be a learning component. You will need knowledge to achieve your desire. Let’s call you passion you personal goal.

Many times you will find as you work towards your goal that it will change ad that alright. The reason it can change as you gain more knowledge you can see more and want to achieve more.

So where are you going. Do you have a passion, desire or goal that you want to achieve, because if you don’t then you’ll never get there. Why go through all this work? The main reason is for you to have meaning in your life you have to put your personal mark on how you impacted the world.

That may sound too grand but it is true. We all have something within us that is truly unique and when we develop it and help and show others we make this a better world.

My challenge to you is if you haven’t found your unique strength that can have a positive impact on others go out and find it. If you know you unique strength keeps developing it and you will find that the world will be a better place because of you.

It is a great feeling to know that you have had positive impact on others. So go out and be everything you can be the world will be a better place because of you.
