Lesson 1 in the DHL stay in shape fitness program

Let look at swimming. Now if you live where it gets real cold swimming every day can be a problem, on less you have access to an indoor pool. Why am I complicating this and just get on with swimming as part of a fitness program.

Swimming is good for rehabilitation after surgery, weight loss and relaxation. This sounds pretty good for starters. Swimming works all the muscles and gives similar results to walking or running, without adding stress to knees, ankles, legs and the back. Swimming is sounding better and better
.
Swimming is a low-impact exercise that's even suitable for pregnant women, experts say. The near weightless feeling of being in the water helps strengthen shoulders and abdominal muscles. Swimming strengthens the heart, which improves delivery of oxygen to muscles.

If I didn’t like to swim, all the pluses would turn me on. There is more for you that might think swimming is your couple of tea. Look at this, swimming helps decrease problems associated with diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure and allergies.

Ok all this sounds good, now here are some funny things you can do if you get bored while swimming. That is why I don’t like to swim, because I get bored. What I am going to tell you might take some of boringness out of swimming.

Ask people if they have seen your pet shark or laugh at fat people in swimsuits. Now that last one is real bad so I won’t try it.

If you live up north and want to swim in the lake, be careful when cutting the hole in the ice, but do make the whole large enough so swim a little. Oh, be sure to bring lots of blanket for when you get out.

Let recap, one swimming is a very healthy thing to do, two if you like to be bored it could be your best way of being fit. Swimming is not for me, but it may be for you.

Later I’ll cover more ways to stay fit as a fiddle. So stay tuned.

Good friend help make a good life

If we take a good look at our friends we will see a lot of us in them. For sure were not exactly alike, but there are lot of things we have in common.

I have my golf buddies. Every Wed. we play golf. After golf we tend to rehash the game. The line goes something like this. “Doug do you remember on 15 that approach shot I put within 2 feet of the pin” and he might say” GREAT shot” and the conversation goes on and on, with each one of us going over the good and the ugly.

We all have special friends. They are the ones that we have all the confidence in that they will do anything for us. When we have these kinds of friends life’s issues that sometimes seem over whelming become less of a problem, with their support.

Support from friend is not a lecture, but a patient ear to hear our issues that at the moment seem bigger that they really are. When they take the time to listen it amazing how the problem just melts away.

Isn’t it a wonderful feeling for having friend that care and are willing to help us and it even better when we can help and listen to them? Can you see the cycle that happening, they give to you by listening and caring, you do the same for them.

When you and your friends have this kind of relationship, you as well as them, will find life such a pleasant journey.

When our journey has great friendship it so easy to give and receive. Yes receiving because if we don’t know how to receive we are impeding life’s wonderful cycle of love. When we are in the state of love many amazing things continue to happen around us.

Why not try it. Listen to a friend, care for others and when given a gift of any kind take it with an open heart, you life will be better for it.

The DHL diet that is guaranteed to work, maybe

Micki every week get this woman’s magazine that has a diet in it that is sure fired way to lose weight. Then on the next pages they have all kinds of tasty looking pictures of deserts and with the recipes.

After a little investigation of these sure fired diets it was easy to see that were just plain old fashion low calorie diets dressed up to look real tasty. But they couldn’t fool me, the master of all diets.

I can honestly say that because I have read almost every diet book that has ever been written. The old joke is I should have eaten the book because they are non-fattening.

Back to the diet at hand, my diet. As I said I guarantee this diet maybe. So are you ready? I am so we are one our way.

Let’s start with breakfast.

1 cup of a whole grain cereal

½ cup of no fat milk

1 cup of blue berries (that is because they are suppose to stimulate brain)

Table spoon of cinnamon

1 half cup of low fat yogurt

1 very whole grain cracker

1 table spoon of low fat soft fake butter

Rinse this all down with some non’ caffeinated green tea (I prefer it iced)

Between breakfast and lunch have a few nuts (I prefer almonds)

Now for Lunch (his is easy)

1 ceaser salad with grilled chicken

Again for a in between snacks have a few and I mean few nut (I prefer almonds)

It is dinner time this is not difficult

1 grilled 8 oz piece of Salmon or other fish. Turkey or chicken works

As much as you want of fresh green vegetables (I prefer broccoli)

I small salad with olive oil and vinegar

All day drink lots of water (prefer decaffeinated green tea on ice)
For a snack before bed tim,e how about nuts (I prefer almonds)

That’s it. No guarantees, but it works for me.

Here is one way to stay young

No you don’t have to buy anything, but you will have to take time to do it. Most people will love doing it. In fact though it might be tiring, but when you’re finished you will feel great.

No it is not what you’re thinking about though that certainly is healthy for you. What I think is one way to stay young and that is be around kids, yes kids.
Spend time just watching them. They are so relaxed and they seem to never stop moving, that is till they collapse.

Second listen to them. If they are too young to really speak, listen anyway. You will hear the beginning of a person developing right in front of you. Then it starts to happen they can speak and they never stop.

My granddaughters favorite word for awhile was grandpa. She sat next to me at lunch and just kept saying grandpa this, grandpa that. I loved every minute of it.
Just giving kids a big hug helps you stay young. They hug back as if you are the most important thing in the world.

Watching them explore the world brings back so many good memories. To them everything is new and has to be studied and not just a little bit but giving ,what ever, a total examination, but when their done evaluating the whatever, that is it. Then it is on to something new.

Here is the best part for me. Getting down on floor and playing with them. They will climb all over you, ride on your back and know they can pin you down if they wanted to. Moms don’t particularly like this because you get the little ones higher than a kite and it is really bad when it is near nap or bed time. But what the heck I am leaving shortly anyways

Being around kid is diffentily something that keeps you young, so do it all you can.

Something special

Micki and I went to a special party last night. Our good friends, Linda and Mike, were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. What made the party so special is both our friend are the nicest people in the world. When you’re with them they make you feel so good.

They did not invite cast of thousands, but friends that had played an important part of their lives. One of the special friends was the person who married them. He is a very interesting guy and in his toast he let them know that their marriage will last, because he took their marriage license and put in his safety deposit book, so there would be no way for them to separate. You know a CPA can’t be to careful.

How about this, they have been going out to dinner with the same people every Thursday night for over twenty years and it all started at this chicken place. So they call themselves the Chicken group. The funny things is the chicken restaurant that they always went to has been torn down for years, but that didn’t stop them they just found another place to have dinner together every Thursday night.

Mike and Linda both love to fish. Will let’s put it this way Mike loves to fish and Linda l if she wanted to be around him she had to love fish to.

That is the way they are almost always together. There are a few exceptions. One is when Mike goes fishing with his fishing club and when Linda goes to visit her sister and brother. Don’t think that Mike doesn’t like to visit her sister and brother, but sometimes he just can’t go.

It would be so easy to go on and on about the great stories of Linda and Mike, but I’ll close this by saying, it is my hope, if you’re married, that you can have a relationship as loving as Linda and Mike.

Friends

Friends
We all have friends and some are closer to us than others, but that doesn’t matter friends are an important part of our lives. Without our friends our lives would be pretty empty.

Good friends will listen to us when we need to talk and it doesn’t really matter what we are talking about. We can go on and on and a good friend just keeps listening.

From time to time they ask a question, but they make sure that we keep on track on whatever it is we’re talking about. When we finish, if they are a good friend, they normally say something like “I understand how you feel” without a long lecture on why you should or should feel the way you do.

A good friend will go some place with you even if they weren’t going there. Partly because they like being around you and partly because they had to be some place so not be with you.

A good friend is great to have a good time with. It might be going to a party or they just stopped by to catch up on what is happening in your life.

Now with your good friend you have to do the listening from time to time. This is important and I mentioned it earlier, but I have to re -enforce it, you don’t lecture to a good friend. You can give you opinion, but not in the form of you are telling them that you have the answers and your right and that is that.

Good friend are to be chariest. Though we have many friend we can only have a very few good friends, so do all you can to keep the flame lit in your friendship with them.

Need your thoughts?

You can help me by giving me you thoughts on what you think wealth means to you. I am not looking at as wealth as money, but other things that impact our lives.

In my research wealth is so much more than having lots of money. Here are some things that might help you to start the process of reviewing what being wealthy might mean to you.

Do have a great family and how important are they to you? Most of us more than likely have some strong feelings about our family. In my case, and I think most of you, our families are very important to us.

Yes I feel bless not only have a very special wife and two sons, but five grand children that are very important Micki and me.

Do you get the idea what wealth might mean to you and others, so put on you thinking cap and pour out everything you feel is wealth to you.

It is amazing how the same word mean so many different things to different people. That is why I am asking for you help.

By you sharing your thoughts on wealth to me, it will help me spread the word, in my new book, on why wealth in your life is so important. Your ideas are critical, because they will in lighten others, including me, have a broader understanding of how wealth reaches into our lives.

I thank you in advance for your ideas and support. Of course I will share with all of you.

Are you a grump?

Are you in a bad mood? Not to worry - according to research, it's good for you.
An Australian psychologist and expert who has been studying emotions found being grumpy makes you think more clearly.

Now me being one of the annoying happy types with my own strengths, miserable people have their strengths, which are better decision-making and less gullible. That is according to the researchers.

While me, the cheerful type , which is I fosters creativity, while gloominess breeds attentiveness and careful thinking, says Professor Joe Forgas in Australian Science Magazine.

That all said I can only take so much of grump people. Yes we love everyone, but that doesn’t mean I have to be around them all the time. Why do not want to be around grump people ? It is because I don’t want to be drawn down to their level.
Personally I like being happy and joyful and when others that don’t like to be happy and joyful I really don’t want to be with them.

Now I know there will be times that you just have to be around them and one of those time in meetings where you need some clear thinking. Yes everyone has their place. One thing I always do with the grump type after the meeting is let them know how much they helped.

Here are some things a grumpy person can do to lift them out of the grumps. That even goes for those that are hard wired to be grumpy.

Don’t Get Stuck in A Rut

Don’t Get Exasperated Over Things You Have No Control.

Have Perspective of Young Child

Leave Criticism To Others

Be Flexible

Positive Attitude

I didn’t say this is easy for the grumpy person, but if they try these things it can help improve their mood. However, in some cases grumpy people are just born grumpy. Thus Grumpy people seldom need reasons to be in a bad mood, but scientists have come up with the perfect excuse: they are born that way.

Why would l set goals?

Most people don't even consider setting goals, let alone really know what they want to do tomorrow. These are the people that just never to seem to get anywhere and they never know why.

That's too bad, because with some thinking about what they want to do in life they there life could be some much better. I am not going to get into preaching about setting personal goals. However, if I can give of the results of goal setting and how to do it, maybe I’ll help someone and that would make be very happy.

Let’s start with some facts. There not mind but come from Harvard Business School’s reach on successful people and by the way the study looked at people with similar background and education standards. The study found that 3% of people are successful, 30% moderately successful and 67% just exist. Why might you think this could happen?

Let’s look at the 3%. They had written down specific goals, while the 30% had some idea of us here they wanted to go, but had no formal written goals. The 67% had no idea of what was happening.

If you are in the 30% it won't take much for you to get in the 3%. All you have to do is use your mind to develop a plan to achieve your clearly written goal.

If you are not in the 3% then here is something you can do. Start with a time management goal. Smart goal setting take some thinking about where you want to go, what your good at and what is important to you. If you start there with you'll be on the path to smart goal setting.

Look for my next article that will spiciificly deal with smart goal setting.

What went right

Did things ever fall in place and you really didn't know why? I think that is way it should be. Why do I think this. It is because we are all part of this wonderful universe and when we have spiritual consciousness many very positive things start to happen.

We start to understand that when things happen they happen for a reason. We might not understand at the monument, but as time goes on you will understand that what accrued ended up being the best thing that ever happened to you.

As you grow in spiritual consciousness you will become more in metaphysics consciousness. Now the world looks not like a daunting place but a world that is full of opportunities and opportunities that you have never seen in the past.

When you look inside yourself you start to appreciate the wonders of you own self. You’re a wonderful being and a one of a kind. And your part of universe that is endless.

You now have the ability to accept the world as it is rather than try to change it. You might have learned how to ride the wave and enjoy it, you will find it a great experience.

Acceptance is an amazing thing. Life is no longer a struggle, but a wonderful journey. The journey will take you many places and many situations, all of which will give you further understanding.

We will never know all the answers, but will be comfortable knowing that by accepting things as they happen is what is suppose to be. Life is amazing and it is yours to enjoy.

As it has been said take time to smell the rose, watch the sunset or view the beauty of nature. Your live will be much richer for it.

Smiling is contagious

Just think of all the times you smile a day. I hope it is a lot, because when you smile at other you are giving them a gift and helping them have a good day. That’s not bad and it didn’t cost you a cent.

Think about there are so many reasons why to smile. Sometimes you can just smile with no one around, just because you feel so good. How about giving a big smile to the mirror in the morning, that is a good way to start the day and make sure your smile is in good shape.

When you look at a little baby, I bet your face is full of a very loving smile. Those little one always fill my heart with love.

Let’s say you heard some really exiting good news, what do you do, you put on a big smile. A big smile tells a lot about us. When you smile you can be excited and happy or filled with joy. What really matters is you expressing yourself in a very personal way
.
There is not many times that you should not smile, and in minute I’ll
give you one, but for now let’s continue on the many of the reasons to have a smile.
Have you ever been away from home for some time? Will what happens when you see your wife or husband and family. You put on the biggest smile along with a lot of hugs and kisses. Those smiles come from deep within your heart and everyone that see that smile knows it. You also have a hard time getting the smile off your face and that is because you are so happy.

Now here is one of the situations you shouldn’t smile. If your spouse or boss is chewing you out, DON’T’ SMILE. That I think is a big one. Of course there are other times, but I don’t want to get into them now.

Here it I, when you smile it is contagious and you makes yourself and other feel good.

Get up and do something

It takes that attitude at times to make things happen. Just do something even if it not something that you think will help. Why might you ask, just do something?

Here is one reason if you don’t start anything how are your’ ever going to finish it. Now once you have started something put your brain in gear and ask yourself now that I am ready to do something, what should I do that advance me toward my goal or mission.

You see once you get started a lot of very positive things start to happen. The inertia that might have creep up on you starts to vanish. This is a big plus because you now have your mind and body ready to do something.

So many people just don’t have the self determination to get started, but once is started, take advantage of it. Tackle some of the things you have been putting off. You will be amazed how many things you can get done when you put your mind to it.

The more you wait to get started the more reasons you can dream up why you shouldn’t start, but once you get in gear and start the things you have been putting off seem to vanish and then you realize that all the reasons you came up with not to get started where not real, but a form of procrastination.

Now that you have gotten started, take advantage of it and don’t stop. The list that had been building will melt away and you know something the weight that you had been carrying around because you haven’t got started on these projects will leave you and help you to continue moving ahead.

Getting started is in most cases is the hardest thing to do, so push yourself to get started. You will feel so much better and reduce the stress that had been building up inside of you.

Get it up and do something, your life will be better for it.

Felling grumpy is good for you

That is what an Australian psychology expert who has been studying emotions has found being grumpy makes us think more clearly. That might be all will and good but what is the impact on people around them. In my opinion grumpy people are downright annoying.

This could be because I am a positive happy person that enjoys life and enjoys being around positive and happy people. When a grump appears it like throwing ice water on me and that is not a very good feeling.

Now that you know how I feel, I have to tell you after some research I have found out that grumpy people actually have some very positive things to add to society. Here is a strong point of grumpy people. There negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking, paying greater attention to the external world and I must admit there is time that is needed.

Professor Forgas said: "Whereas positive mood seems to promote creativity, flexibility, co-operation and reliance on mental shortcuts and that is me MR. Positive. So I guess to keep things in balance we need the whole mix of types of people to keep society on the straight and narrow.

I am going to continue to research on grumps so I can put a more positive spin on them. Though I still don’t have to like being around them, I can appreciate what they bring to the table.

Here is question for you. Would you rather work with happy positive person or a grump? Please E-mail at www.dhalind@gmail.com. I won’t use any names, but I will share your thoughts with my listeners and readers.

Being Positive

Being positive is the only way to go. When you’re positive you make things happen. You know other like you because you make them feel good. Making things happen and having people that want to help you is a sure fired receipt for success.

Let look at if we are born positive or is it learned. That has been a question that has puzzled people for ever. It is like the chicken or the egg which one came first. That question might have been solved, but the question of are we born a certain way or do we learn to be positive.

Of course there is one group that believe, the way we were born is the way we are and that, that.

And then there are those that believe that our environment is what molds us. To some extent both school of thoughts are somewhat correct.

It is now believed that our genes play an important part in what we are, but not totally. What we are is a blend of our genes and the environment we grew up in. How much one impacts us is anyone guess.

You have heard the stories about identical twins that were separated at birth. When scientist later study the twins they found that they had many common attributes. But this does not prove that they are truly identical in every way.

Now to go back to the original question are we born positive or do we acquire a positive attitude. It is my contention that we acquire a positive attitude more than we were born with it and here why.

First the people that you were around at an early age have profound effect on your personality. If these People were positive you have a strong change of being a positive person.

Second as you matured and saw how the world worked. You would have probably seen that those that were positive, in general, found live more satisfying than those that were negative, so who doesn’t want to enjoy the world around them.

Being positive makes your life’s journey one of happiness and joy. Here is to being positive, it is good for you.

Why Smile

“The world always looks brighter form behind a smile” Author Unknown. Do you believe this as a true statement, I sure do. Here are some of the reasons not to smile, if you boss or spouse is chewing you out “Don’t’ Smile.”

If you want to feel better, smile. It makes you and others feel good when you give a big heartfelt smile. When you give someone an honest smile take a look at them and you normally find the person gives you a smile back.

What has just happened is you have helped yourself and the person receiving the smile. Both of you inter-feelings have been uplifted. When you and others feel better towards each other, life becomes so much more rewarding.

Smiling does some other things. When you smile you use less muscles in your face, did you know that? When you smile you use only seventeen muscles, but when you frown you use forty three. By smiling you acutely use less energy by using fewer muscles. In fact you use almost on third the muscles.

Here is something to try when you look into the mirror, give yourself smile. It does two things. One it keeps you in the practice of smiling and two when you see your smiley face it makes you feel better. This isn’t a bad way to start the morning. With just doing the mirror routine your day is off to GREAT start.

As the say life will just get better and better in every way and every day. Smile it good for you and others.

One of my new year’s resolutions

I am going to lost thirty five pounds by the end of 2010. I am going to start with motivation training which will help me with physical weight loss. Eating the wrong foods I will not be able to do, so mindfulness eating is going to be what I have to do.

Eating low fat foods is a good start and is also healthy. Eating more fish helps in so many ways. Salmon is great for fish oil which is good for the heart and many other things. This will take some personal motivation on my part, but the results will be worth it.

Personally I like exercise foods. Every morning I have some form of whole grain, fresh fruits and V-8 juice. After breakfast I am set for the morning. Before breakfast I walk for thirty five to forty minutes and four times a week I do some weight programs. I'll also play golf twice a week but they say that doesn't count, but I am moving and appreciate nature.

I have stopped drinking alcohol for many reasons. One it does some bad things to you when you drink too much, like Wight gain, which would go against my new year’s resolution.

Jut so you know today I am two hundred and twenty pounds, so by the end of 2010 I'll be one hundred and eighty five pounds. I'll keep you informed.
