The Laughers

We have spent four days with Bob and Jan, the laughers. You can but not have a good time. We have known Bob and Jan for almost forty years, so we have hundreds and hundreds of stories to go over. What is interesting is we spend most of the time talking about present and the future.

Bob asked if I could help him take town the folding awning and as what a good friend would do I helped. I had helped him put it up last spring so you would of thought we would have remembered how to take it down. Wrong, what should have been ten minute job turned into a hour plus and we had to in list the help of the next store lady who was over talking to Jan and Micki.

Jan and Micki had good since to stay away, howe

A great time to laugh is at the dinner table. For what reason I don’t know but we get some great laughing time there. We also find laughing in the car is very good. You know what we find every place is a good laughing place.

Micki and I are heading back to Ft. Lauderdale this morning, but are for we leave we have to have breakfast with Bob and Jan. This will give some more quality laughing time.

The next time we’ll be with Jan and Bob will be at our son Todd’s wedding in the Florida Keys next June. You know what is going to happen? There is going to be a lot of laughing going on.

How to stay married

How about this, being in love with your partner? That is a real good start, but that is just the beginning. Trust is a big thing and trust is something you earn every day. With out trust there is doubt and it is hard to trust your spouse if you have doubt. Here is where the earning comes in you can’t do things that could bring doubt with you partner.

Staying out late more than would be acceptable or not giving you spouse the attention that is needed. So trust is key element for a good marriage.
Doing the little things. Be a partner with you spouse. Help with dishes, do the things your spouse cares about with out being told. Remembering the little and big things and make a big deal out of them.

We all need to feel wanted so show your spouse that she is most special person in your life. Bring something home that she likes, with out being told. That is a big one. Everyone likes to have some special recognition so why not your spouse.
Do the unexpected from time to time. Take her to her favorite place for dinner or give her that back rub she loves, but do something that is not expected.

Share your dreams. It could be your dream house or a dream vacation. It doesn’t matter what as long as you both are sharing the same dream. By sharing your dreams you are strengthening your marriage relationship and that is another step to not only staying married, but to have a very loving and enjoyable one.

Care for your partner. When their sick take special care of them. When they feel blue listen to them, because when they talked about it, it helps them fell better.
Some people go together for years before marriage on other like Micki and I feel in love on second sight and have been married for over 45 years. Yes we have had our ups and downs, but after a down we always come back stronger.

Do some of things I suggested to you and you will be on you way to a loving and happy marriage. I’ll give you more ideas some other time.

Do people change

Last night was very interesting. My high school class of 1959 is having or 50th reunion. Friday nigh was as causal get to gather, tonight is the main event as might say.

There had to 40 people at the causal get to gather and I most say there were just a few that I could recognize, let alone remember their names. Despite this lack of remembering it was a great evening.

As I started to talk with people the memory started to kick in gear. It was funny we didn’t get into what we did in high school, but what we are doing now. Tom is the superintend of a very large school district and has to put in ten hour day just to keep up. He things it is getting too much and might call it quits when his contract if over. I am also funny that we graduated from Eastern Michigan University at the same graduation ceremony.

It is interesting that those that I talked with that either were working or were involved in something that they had a real passion for seemed the happiest. They want you to know how they were doing, but they also wanted to know how I was doing.
It proves that people that keep their minds active stay younger and have minds that are sharp and alert.

Tonight there will be nametags and this will be a great help to me. Tonight I won’t have to call most people hey you. I think people like to be called by their name and the nametags will certainly help.

Though some of my classmates look older than I think they should, but after talking with them you find out there minds are still sharp.

Tonight should be a very enjoyable evening and it my hope that we will talk about

Happiness brings Success

Happiness brings success for many reasons. Look at it this way do you want to be around a grump, I know I sure don’t. When your’ happy you have more energy. This lets you do so many things that can build your success.

When your happy you feel better you are more likely to open your mind to opportunities at work, play and in your personal live. That doesn’t sound so bad, does it?

How we think about happiness and success has profound impact on how we live our lives. When we think of success it leads to happiness and we are motivated to focus on success.

A study of that had participants put in to positive and negative moods and then comparing their behavior. Here is what the positive people were likely to do.

1. Talk to others
2. Be interested in leisure activities
3. Enjoy social interactions and leisure activities more
4. Resolve conflicts effectively
5. Help others
6. Feel healthier
7. Be more creative
8. Perform complex tasks better
9. Have confidence in our own abilities

Happiness brings success, success brings confidence, and if this isn’t reason enough to be happy I don’t know what will turn you on happiness.

Things are going well

When you make wrong turn and can still get to where you wanted to go with out losing any time that is when things are going well. That happened to day on our way to Micki’s high school buddy. I got to know Mary in College because of Micki. Micki was in her wedding and Mary was in ours. Her husband Dick is one of the best.

I don’t want to bore you, but I have to tell you this story. Micki was about eight months pregnant with our first son Skip and Mary, Dick, Micki and myself drove to private camping and hunting club called Loss Lakes Woods, which is near Alpena Michigan. We road in Dick’s new Corvair convertible to Loss Lakes Woods, Micki had to sit the front because of here condition.

Here is the funny part Mary’s mother insisted she and Burt come along in case Micki had Skip early. By the way Mary’s mother is not a doctor. Mary, Dick, Micki and I sleep in Mary and Dick’s pop up trailer. Mick didn’t need Mary’s mother help, but it was nice to have her and Burt along. We played and lot of gin and Burt being a champion gin player taught us a load about gin.

When you have friends like Dick and Mary it make live so enjoyable.
Now where in Petoskey, Mi we are going to have dinner with some of our Ft. Lauderdale friends that like cold with and a slower life style
.
Happiness comes from in side, so you have to live a life that fits you.

You have to laugh

Last night we were at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, Michigan. It is right across for Ford Motor Company’s world headquarters. It is a Hugh hotel. Everyone was so nice to us. Going up the elevator a maintains guys road up with us and I kidded him if we were going to have a problem getting to the fourth floor and he laughed and said no.

Later when we got back to our room it was 62 degrees. After trying to get the heater on I gave up and called the hotel for assistances. Guess who came to help the same guy I was kidding with. When he came in we both laughed. He got right work at figuring out the problem and also brought with him a portable heater. He told us that he would get to the central computer and that there he could correct the problem. I guess it worked because when we got up it was 82 degrees in our room.
Now of to Sault Saint Marie and the Soo Locks. I was a wonderful drive I-75 right in Sault Saint Marie, but there were some funny signs along the way.

We saw three of these sign on the way to Sault Saint Marie. Here is what the sign said” Prisons do not pick up hitch hikers”. What bothered me about the sign is why can’t they keep the prisoners in their prisons. I thought is impossible escape for a prison but I guess I was wrong.

Saul Saint Marie is in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and for some reason they don’t consider them part of the Lower Peninsula. This couldn’t be more apparent is when I went to pay our dinner bill with American Express and Kara our wonderful server that said if you’re North of the Bridge the yuppers don’t take AMX. I asked what is north of what bridge mean and she told me any one north of the Mackinaw Bridge that connects the lower peninsula of Michigan to the upper peninsula and you live in the upper peninsula your are and yupper.

I found out because I was from the Lower Peninsula I was a troll or an apple knocker. Isn’t interesting what you learn from asking questions.

What ever I am called I am sure it is worth a good laugh.

It is been GREAT

We left Lake City and had a very pleasant drive to Atlanta. Had a little problem finding the hotel, but it was now big deal? Once we got settled in we checked out the place and found a neat bar and grill and decided to have dinner there.

We always sit at the bar for two reasons, one you tend to get better service and two you get to have some good conversation with the bar tender. This bar and grill was what we always like. The bar maid was a delight and then we got to know the owner. She came from Korea and because we have been there we had very good discussion. By the way the food was great.

Now it is Sunday morning and we got the 7:30 AM hotel shuttle to the airport. We were dropped off right in front of baggage check in. That was great no lugging the luggage around. Now we are in the Dealt Sky Room, which use to be the Crown Room waiting for our flight.

It is amazing how busy an airport can be at 8:00 AM Sunday morning. I guess people have to get to some place and Sunday works for them.

My karma has really gotten much better. Micki and I are laughing about my bad day. You know laughing is good for all of us. As I always say the past is the past and don’t work your self over about it. The future is about to come but right now I am in the present and it is GREAT.
